Great River Bridge
The Great River Bridge connects Burlington, Iowa with Gulf Port, Illinois. Bridges over the Mississippi are always impressive because they must be wide enough to span the mighty river and tall enough for the barge traffic to pass under. The Great River Bridge is a newer bridge, built in 1993 replacing a much older, narrower bridge. The one tower cable stayed construction makes it very elegant.
This image was taken when the river was at flood stage due to heavy rains in Minnesota, Iowa, and western Illinois.
